Dear Lego Owner/Former Collector,
Would you like to know of a way to sell your Legos online and make a profit while you’re at it?
Any Lego enthusiast would kill for this opportunity!
When I was 14 I had no source of income except for $10/week for cleaning my dad’s office. By the time I was 15 I worked hard carting bags of dirt to peoples’ car and getting $1-2 of tip every hour. Needless to say, this was painful. I was saving all my money for college...and there was no opportunity for having fun.
In other words, my work-life sucked and I was beginning to get the impression that works is hard (NOT!), boring and painful. Summer jobs were doomed to be worse!
It was time to abandon ship.
I began searching for ways that I could generate a profit doing something I enjoyed.
As luck would have it, I found a way to sell Legos online and make way more than I would on sites like Ebay or Kijiji. Before long I was laughing on my way to the bank - rather than crying!
With a big smile on my face and a bunch of Lego sets to sell, at 16 I started my first sole-proprietorship business where I was the boss. Three hours after my shop opened I made my two sales totalling $75.
I couldn’t believe this!
In 2 weeks I was padding my monthly income with an extra $100 per month from a store I hardly maintained.
What Would You Spend an Extra $100 on?
It was hard to tear myself away from my online shop because I was so excited. I began to experience an entreprenuerial mindset!
People were buying! They were buying my Legos, which meant I had a business and I did something right!
This wonderful boom lasted for about 2 years. Here's what I got out of it:
It gave me the opportunity to sell off my lego collection and pay for a big chuck of tuition and college expenses (travel, books, etc.)
It also made me just over $6000 ($2500 in the two year period) (How many people do you know who get $6000 from their lego collection when they are done with it? Probably lost somewhere in the attic).
Most importantly, I learned how to run a business (I got my feet wet taking action!). I learned about different forms of payment, shipping orders, customer service and cash flow/forecasting.
All this by the time I was 18 years old for 2 hours of work per month!
I was able to sit back and relax when when an emergency expense came up:
• “Oh that’s ok, my Lego Store is going to pay for that” or...
• “Well thanks to the extra money coming in from my Lego shop, I can pay for this!” or even...
• “Don’t worry about it, I’ll pay for it...Sure, it’s really no problem, I have a little extra money coming in from my Lego store”
As a 16, 17 and 18 year old, I felt a certain freedom because I had the confidence that I could open an online store, make real money and what’s more, make profit and enjoy doing it!
Today it’s even handier, because I know that I can generate $1000 in a heart-beat if I have to. All I need to do is a few clicks, put on a 20-30% sale and the cash cow sets in motion.
If I need another $500, I can just drum up a bit more business, selling more parts and there I go! Of course, this all depends on how greedy you were when you were a kid! I was pretty greedy.
What makes me different from the average Joe who has a Lego store?
Not that I have more parts than he does. It’s that I know how to run my business. I don’t spend hours and hours tweaking it in ways that don’t make me more money. I can take my customer’s worst fear, make it insignificant boosting my sales by an extra 300%! And turning my client into a raving fan.
Here’s a short snippet of an interview where I explain the problems of selling Legos online and how they can be solved:

Here is some of the feedback I received from my customers in 2007:

To read more testimonials from customers click here. The point of showing you these is so you can see that I maintain a very high work ethic in the way I treat my customers. Out of over 700 lego transactions I have never gotten any feedback other than praise and praise, and more praise.
So What?
What's in it for me?
Well if you are still asking yourself this, here is what have an
online Lego store has done for me:
In 2005 I started putting my lego store at the top of my resume. To my delight, every single interview I have had since then I was able to explain what my store is all about and set my experiences apart from everyone else's.
I've made a lot of money (yes Dan, but what else?)
I learned a whole slew of valueable information about the Post Office. Today, 75% of what I purchase is online, all because I know who to buy from-people who won't rip me off charging insane amounts of money for shipping!
I've gained a lot of valueable experience. Here is what I put on my resume that has made me qualify for many many job offers:
Internet Sales, CanaDan’s Parts Oct 2000 - Present Bookkeeper

(This was my resume written for accounting internships)
And so there you have it! Take the leap of faith and learn something new! All those Legos in the attic being kept for your kids' kids' kids!
One moment they'll all be there, and the next you'll be screaming at your mom for throwing them out.
As a Bonus...
I am including downloadable movies to show you step-by-step how to set up your shop and trouble-shoot common problems that arise. I was going to use these as an add-on package to Cash Flow Lego Venture However I feel that the sooner you have all the details the sooner you can start making money ($25 value). |

And as a Second Bonus...
I will also include a transcript for an interview that one of my buddies studying medicine at McGill did with me in the fall. [Edit] Scratch that. The book is going to be $35. I talked pricing over with a few friends and we agreed that it would be cooler if you could gain back your initial investment in the book very fast! (Assuming you sell for less than my first 3 hours. There's no guarantee that I will leave it as this virtually-give-away price.[/Edit]
